camps and races in sedona & the santa monica mountains
I would like to highly recommend Trail Running Escapes to anyone wanting to run some of the most beautiful trails in Sedona. As a person who just wants to focus on their running and not logistics, TRE is the answer. Erica & Richard took care of each one of us and took the guess work out of mileage, various terrains, snacks, vehicle support and beverages. They would transport us to the trailheads which could/can be overwhelming. We returned no later than 1:30 PM each day, which was fantastic because my husband doesn't run and we had the entire afternoon to do activities. Thank you again for a relaxing and stress-free vacation." ~ Marie from Steamboat Springs, CO

"68 miles Santa Monica Backbone Trails-4 amazing days, beautiful views and a wonderful group of people to experience it with!" ~ Kelli from Oak Park, CA
While it's cold and snowy everywhere else, we'll be running the trails under a California or Arizona sun. Come see Southern California and Arizona's beauty from the inside out. You'll spend 4-5 days (depending on which camp you choose) exploring some of the best trails Socal & Sedona have to offer. The Santa Monica Mountains and Coconino National Forest offer diverse terrain, miles of single track and expansive views. When the day is done, rest your legs and replenish your body at one of Westlake Village or Sedona's award winning restaurants and wineries. Before you click on the drop down menu to see our featured camps, read why you should come run with us!!!
Depending on which Camp you choose will determine our departure time from the Westlake Village Inn each day. Our Santa Monica Mountains Camp departs at 8:30 AM and our Backbone Camp departs at 7:45 AM. From the Westlake Village Inn, we will shuttle to our start location. Each day we will average 12 miles with plenty of climbing*. These camps are set in the Santa MonicaMountains where most trails head up, so bring your rested legs. These trails are not technically difficult, but challenging. Every runner should be able to run and/or hike 10 miles a day**. Our support vehicle will be available if you choose not to go long on any day. We offer each day's proposed route along with a shorter option.
We are typically done each day by 12:30/1:00 PM on our SMM Camps and 3:00 PM on our Backbone Camps. Refreshments and light snacks will be provided afterwards.
Our Mammoth Mountain and Sedona Camps start at 8:30 AM and typically ends around 1:00 PM; depending on our shuttle time.
Every runner must carry at least one handheld water bottle or camel back. Water, sports drinks, powders, gels, bars, chomps, salty snacks, sweets, fruit and more will be available before, after and during every run. Our support vehicle is never far for refueling, rehydrating or shedding a layer of clothing. Every runner will be given a trail route map with specific directions. In addition to an overall course description before every run.
Trail Running Escapes camps are NOT "coaching" camps. Although our runs are hosted by certified running coaches, our camps are not comprised of coaching sessions, nor white boards or plyometric exercises. We offer fun, challenging trail runs in beautiful settings. Trail Running Escapes brings together trail runners from across the nation to share in the love of trail running ~ an "escape" from your regular run!
* Our Backbone Trail Camp is a "Specialty Camp" designed over 4 days, so our average daily mileage is higher ~ 17 Miles a day. You must be able to run/hike for 4-5 Hours a day!
